When it comes to your overall mental health, stress is the biggest problem that most of face. It is also the biggest reason for many health problems that we face daily. Most of don’t even understand that stress can be the major cause of major health problems like heart problems. There are many different types of therapy that can be used to help with stress relief and music therapy is a relaxing and soothing one that can help with stress but also major and minor illnesses as well.

Music therapy services are available to adults and children with disabilities. Sessions are individually designed according to each person’s special needs. Using music and music activities, the music therapist works with each individual to address specific goals and objectives that are determined by the therapist.

With music therapy both individual and small group sessions will be conducted with regular progress evaluations. Music therapy can be done for clients with the following disabilities: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Mental Retardation, Attention Deficit Disorder, Lowe’s Syndrome, and, Tourrette’s Syndrome.

Music Therapy may be commonly defined as the structured use of music and music activities geared toward helping individuals with disabilities meet both musical and non-musical goals. Music therapy goals may be based on behavioral, physical, cognitive, social, and emotional or language and communication. Music is a proven relaxation technique as well as a stimulant. Those who use music therapy often experience positive changes.

Music therapy is good for people of all ages may benefit from music therapy, from young children to elderly seniors. People with almost any disability have ability when it comes to music. Music Therapy clients participate through playing instruments, improvising and making up new songs, singing, or even just listening. The people that are involved in Music Therapy sessions may range from having a mild learning disability to having severe mental retardation.

Music therapists assess clients’ communication skills, social functioning, physical health and mobility, cognitive skills, and emotional well-being by how they respond to music. They design Music Therapy sessions for individuals according to their unique needs. In these tailored sessions, therapists use techniques such as music improvisation, receptive music listening, music performance on instruments and with the voice, and learning through music. That is just too cool. When you think of music in terms of therapy, it is very easy to forget how truly useful music can be. It really does sooth the savage beast within us if we let it.

Stress is there in every aspect of life, but being stressed out or not is in our hands. We don’t have control over what will happen to us, but what we can control is how we react to those situations. But that doesn’t mean we have to laugh out everything. The more stressed out we are, we become prone to cold, flu and other diseases.

Today when recession has hit us badly, we are fighting our ways to live and trying to spend as little as possible. A simple lifestyle is way to relieve stress, and nowadays it has become essential for monetary reasons. But when simple lifestyle is not an option open for people, they feel stressful and deprived. Taking up simple living due to economic needs can also be stressful to those who are not used to this type of living. Here are a few tips on relieving stress.

Get the right attitude

The most important aspect of living a simple life and reduce stress is to change the attitude. Try to be happy with what you have and what you get, rather than thinking on what you’d like to have, or what you wanted to get. Being content with what you have will give you fulfillment and reduce stress.

Cut Back

Do not make unwanted expenses and try to remove those things which you feel that you haven’t used, and aren’t likely to use it any more. Getting rid of unwanted stuff from your house, may also bring in stuff which you felt you lacked. Here are a few points on how you can cut back on your expenses.

Are you passionate about books? Instead of buying books and stacking them at your home after you’ve read it, become a member at a library near your locality. The same goes with movie buffs. Renting movies and books will save you lot of money.

Try to make use of offers while shopping. Buy toothpaste of 400 grams instead of 200 grams if you get a toothbrush free with it. Some stores have reward points on shopping for a certain value. If your bill is near a value close to getting you reward points, buy something else to reach that reward point. You can redeem these points for some exciting gifts later.

Avoid eating out often, it is expensive. Plus you get to kill time on long weekends by cooking your own food.

Pay your bills online. Third party commissions, late fees etc can be avoided by doing so.

Save fuel by walking or biking to go to places which are not too far. This will help you in exercising and save money at the same time.

Switch off lights and electrical appliances when not required. This will cut your electricity bill.

There are many other ways of finding things you want for less money. Sometimes we can find them free of cost. But the key is to know what is available where, at what price and how you can derive maximum gains from these resources.

Life would be so wonderful if it weren’t for other people. Let’s face it, people will upset you. They will say things that will hurt your feeling.

And no matter how well you plan, problems and challenges will pop up. You will be stressed out. But it’s your responsibility to do something to feel better.

Here are 7 tips that can help you right away:

1) Don’t just sit there. Move! According to many psychologists, motion creates emotion. You might notice that when you are idle, it’s easier to become depressed. Your heart rate slows down, less oxygen travels to your brain, and you are slumped somewhere in a chair blocking air from reaching your lungs.

I challenge you right now, regardless of how you are feeling, to get up and walk around at a fast tempo. Maybe you might want to go to an empty room and jump up and down a little bit. It may sound silly but the results speak for themselves. Try it now for a few minutes. It works like magic.

2) Smell the roses. How do you smell the roses? How about investing some money to go on that one trip you’ve been dreaming about? Visit a country with lots of exotic places to jolt your imagination and spur your creativity. You need to detach from your daily activities and venture a little bit.

3) Get some company. If you’re like me, you have many acquaintances, but you only have a few true friends. This isn’t because I’m introverted. It is because I’m very selective about who I let enter my territory. I have worked too hard to build my house-my dream-and I won’t let anyone destroy it for me in the blink of an eye.

When you’re feeling down, call your true friends and share what it is that you’re going through. Ask for their advice or input. While their advice or suggestions may be helpful, often you’ll find that simply verbalizing your problems will help you feel better.

4) Help others cope with their problems. It is very therapeutic when you engross yourself in helping others. You will be surprised how many people’s problems are worse than those you may be facing. You can offer others assistance in countless ways. Don’t curl up in your bed and let depression and stress take hold of you.

Get out and help somebody. There are many charitable organizations that can use your help right now. My dear cousin Barbara reads to the blind. Call the National Federation of the Blind so that they can tell you how to get involved.

5) Laugh a little. By now you’ve heard that laughter is a good internal medicine. It relieves tension and loosens the muscles. It causes blood to flow to the heart and brain. More importantly, laughter releases a chemical that rids the body of pains.

Every day, researchers discover new benefits of laughter. Let me ask you this question: “Can you use a good dose of belly-shaking laughter every now and then?” Of course you can. What you are waiting for? Go a comedy club or rent some funny movies.

6) Visit third world countries. Nothing is more humbling than to visit a poor country and see first hand what other human beings go through just to survive. Most people who have taken such trips come back with a deep and profound sense of gratitude and appreciation.

They realize how much they’ve taken for granted without ever realizing it. I encourage you to travel whenever you can afford to do so. You’re not too busy. Do it for you. Your life will never be the same.

7) Wear your knees. If there were one sustainable remedy I could offer you when the going gets tough, it would be prayer. Many people, depending on their faith, might call it meditation. It doesn’t matter to me what you call it, as long as you have a place to run to.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “Religions are crossroads converging upon the point.” Well, I don’t often discuss religion, and I don’t know what works for you; but Christianity is the way I know. However, I am sensitive enough to respect your faith. My whole point is that when everything else fails, prayer works!

Written by Shaun Day.

If anger and stress eat at you on a regular basis you must be as tired of it as I was not too long ago. The fact that you’re reading this means you must be searching for a way to get off the emotional roller-coaster and start living life the way it was meant to be lived.

You’ve probably tried all sort of common sense tricks or followed advice from well meaning people who aren’t really experts but were sure they knew what they were talking about. But in the end it turned out these techniques weren’t all they were cracked up to be. And maybe you started to wonder if there was anything out there that worked.

Sure they didn’t work, but that wasn’t because of anything you did wrong. They were just flat out bad techniques.

But that doesn’t mean a solution doesn’t exist. The truth is there is a way for you to learn what you need to learn to get your emotions in check and approach life’s problems calmly and with a level head. And it only takes a little bit of your time every day.

But before I get to that, let me tell you what is probably the biggest underlying cause of both anger and stress.

Low Energy. That’s right, once you’ve gotten this one little detail under control you’ll find that handling the little things in life get a whole lot easier. Here are some of the top pointers to achieve just that:

 1. Get enough sleep. People these days are chronically under-rested. If you want to get your emotions under control you have to make a commitment to yourself to turn off the TV and get up off the computer chair at a reasonable time and get to bed.
2. Exercise regularly. This is something else that not nearly enough people do on a regular basis. But for relieving stress it can work wonders. The most effective exercise for stress relief is the most strenuous. But even a good brisk walk is way better than nothing. And the more days in a row you do it the better and more energetic you’ll feel.
3. Eat right. This means saying no to fat laden and high sugar foods. If you want something sweet have some fruit. If you want energy that will last more than an hour, have something high in slow burning carbohydrates, like beans or oatmeal, whole grain pasta or whole grain bread. And make sure you’re getting plenty of protein and vegetables as well.

These tips will get you well on your way to getting your anger and stress under control. But for an effective long term solution that will help when even having enough energy isn’t enough I know of a anger management course you can order online and take at home at your own pace. As an added bonus there’s an audio version of the course that you can listen to while you’re out for a walk or in your commute to and from work. Find out more by clicking Anger Management Today

Author and speaker H. Stephen Glenn has said,

“In terms of the entire world, if, when you wake up in the morning, you have a choice of what to eat, a choice of what to wear, a job to go to and a way to get there, you have abundance.”

And yet we squander that abundance so often by not making choices in our lives. We allow life to just happen to us, instead of choosing what we believe to be best for us. We have enough abundance to create and live our best life, and yet we lose out by choosing not to. We have very weak choice muscles.

So the question becomes:

are you a chooser or a loser?

If that sounds harsh, well, so be it. It’s a harsh reality.

How to be a loser

Allow life to just happen to you.

Play the victim role.

Complain without taking any action.

Believe you have no power to influence yourself or others.

Take the “dead roach approach” to events that occur in your life _ lying flat on your back with your legs wiggling in the air and whatever happens, happens.

Believe in silly sayings such as “waiting for the other shoe to drop” and “bad things always come in threes.” These are classic self-fulfilling prophecies.

Take a reactive approach to life – do not use you brain.

Ask really useless questions like “why does this always happen to me?” while whining “this is not fair!”

Play it safe and don’t take risks _ prefer the safety of mediocrity over the chance to go for want you want in life.

Set very low expectations for yourself and then consistently fail to live up to them.

How to be a chooser

Realize – get it – that you have choices!

Take a proactive approach to your life.

Expect success and for things to go well and go your way.

Set high expectations for yourself, higher than others expect of you, and then exceed them.

Pick a direction in which to head and then pursue it with all you have got.

Be creative. So many people limit themselves by telling me that they are just not creative. My response is “Do you worry?” Answer _ “Yes, of course. All the time.” Then you know how be creative. Worrying is simnply being creative in a negative, limiting way. Creativity is simply this: “looking at something that has always been there and seeing something that has never been seen before.”

7) Wear your knees uut.
